A GALA AFFAIR

On Sunday the 26th October 2014 the Rotary Club of  Princes Town Trinidad and Tobago hosted its 05th annual Tea & Fashion Event themed – FLEUR – at the Hyatt Regency Port of Spain Ballroom and in keeping with its theme the ballroom was beautifully adorned with floral arrangements and centrepieces, which lit up the ballroom to the delight of its patrons.

The event was sold out as early as two weeks prior to the date and even up to the day of hosting the Club was flooded with requests for tickets, which it was unable to satisfy.

As from 2:00 p.m. patrons made their way to the ballroom pausing only to take advantage of the garden themed photo booth and the expert photography of Gareth Leigh photography to record their presence at the gala event.  By the start of the event at 3:00 p.m. the ballroom was filled to capacity and DJ Don provided music which added to the peaceful serenity of the decorated ballroom and created a sense of excitement of the event that was to unfold.

As from pannist Kyle Ali’s rendering the National Anthem to the vote of thanks by Rotarian Krista Chang patrons were taken upon a journey of delightful presentations as they thoroughly enjoyed the evening’s event attended by Assistant Governor Dr. Michael Kangaloo, which lasted to 7:15pm.

Club President Jamir Ousman welcomed and thanked patrons for their attendance and continued support for the event the proceeds of which he informed were to be dedicated to the worthy objectives of eradicating polio, raising the level of diabetes awareness in our children, and promoting autism awareness.

Feature speaker Justice Vasheist Kokaram’s message of conciliation, mediation and goodwill was well received by patrons and showed the fusion between Rotary’s work throughout the world and the part every person can volunteer to play in assisting the various humanitarian efforts which make up Rotary, towards impacting positively on the lives of less fortunate persons in society.

Master of ceremonies Nikki Crosby introduced Samsara D Band which entertained the patrons during the tea session of the evening’s proceedings with a mix of live renditions, which primed the audience for the splendid presentations that followed the tea session.

Belly dancer Soleil Spencer opened the first fashion segment entitled Lotus Blossom with her sensual belly dance followed by recently married couple Doctors Giovannah Sanmook and Vaalmiki Singh who gracefully modelled the couple’s Indian bridal wear and which was followed by exciting presentations by Brandid House of Fashion Ltd. and Covered Treasures.

Wendy Sheppard had the audience enthralled with her beautiful rendition of golden classics, which enticed patrons to sing along adding to the excitement and gaiety of the evening.

The second fashion segment Desert Rose featured designs/fashions from Charu Lochan Dass, Daronte, Little Black Dress & Co. and Elle Fashion which were accessorized with jewellery from Anoushka by Ilmes available exclusively at Stetchers.

Extreme breakers presented lively performances of their daring and energetic dance routine with their junior members putting on a breathtaking performance.

Entertainer K-Ritch serenaded the models from Passion Carnival who showcased pieces from the band’s 2015 presentation Neverland.

There was no limit to the lively entertainment provided during the event and in the Wildflower segment Zadd and Eastman, Iris Atsin, Swimwear by Amy and Sally Lochan Dass featured their designs to the accompaniment of choiced music from DJ Don.

After treating patrons to surprise giveaways hosts Bashir Mohammed and Indira Singh opened the last segment of the evening’s show Jasmine which featured Formal and Bridal wear from Judy’s boutique and brought an end to an enchanting evening of glitz, glamour and razzmatazz with patrons promising their patronage for the next show.

The evening of pleasurable and lively entertainment could not have achieved its near flawless presentation and execution but for the dedication of the Committee comprising Rishi Ramlogan, Indira Singh, Debbie Roopchand and Krista Chang and the willing participation of the host of volunteer Rotarians and their partners in service who contributed in one way or another towards the evening’s success.

The Rotary Club of Princes Town in its hosting of the event towards the laudable objectives as expressed by its President is dedicated to the objective expressed by Rotary Internationals’ President Gary C.K. Huang that clubs by their activities seek to “Light up Rotary” and by so doing light up the world.
