Basic Education and Literacy Month
Poetry Competition - Princes Town Methodist School
On Thursday 3rd November, 2022 Rotarians met at Princes Town Methodist School for a Poetry Competition in commemoration of Rotary’s recognition of September as Basic Education and Literacy Month.
The event took place between 9 a.m. and 11 a.m.
Present were PP and Charter Member Jamir Ousman, PP and Charter Member Capildeo Beharry, PP Zobida Ragbirsingh, Dir Dr. Lindsey Aziz, Dir Wendy Joseph, Dir Michael Cooper-Ochiengh, Partner in Service Sandra Cooper and Ms Candace Basdeo, Senior Teacher at Princes Town West Secondary School.
Judging the event were Senior Teacher Ms. Candace Basdeo, Dir Dr. Lindsey Aziz and one of the School teacher’s Ms Mano.
The Principal Ms Mclean commenced the proceedings by welcoming the Rotary Club club members and guests. This was followed by the National Anthem and remarks from Service Projects Director Michael Cooper-Ochiengh who presented Principal Mclean with Rotary Club of Princes Town’s Annual Magazine showcasing the clubs work in the community throughout the year.
The competition started in earnest with recitals from a total of 15 students from standard 1, 2 and 3.
It was evident that the students had put much effort into learning and preparing for the competition.
Before the announcement of winners by Committee Chair Dir Wendy, Judge Candace Basdeo gave the students some feedback about their exceptional performances and encouraged them to participate in extracurricular activities which will aid them to become positive contributors to their community.
All participants received Book Vouchers(Ishmael Khan) and certificates, and the 1st, 2nd and 3rd winners received trophy prizes.
Special thanks to Rtn Miranda Ramjattan for designing the Certificates, Dir Andrea for organising the trophies and all committee members especially Committee Chair Wendy Joseph for coordinating the necessary arrangements.
