Bullfinch competition to raise funds for the Rotary Foundation:

On Sunday 2nd April 2017 the Rotary Club of Princes Town ("the Club") partnered with the Naparima Bird Lovers Association ("the Association") in the hosting of their 8th annual Bird show at the Usine Ste Madeline ground, Trinidad to raise funds for the Rotary Foundation.

At sunrise bird lovers from throughout Trinidad and Tobago congregated with their bullfinch birds in hand to participate in the competition.

The show started at 7:00 a.m. with a rendition of the National Anthem on steel pan by child of Rotary Kyle Ali and greetings from Rotarian Seunarine Sanmook, current President of the Association and the Club's President Debbie Roopchand.

Both Presidents spoke of the good works of the Rotary Foundation in this its 100th year in existence and the importance of contributing financially to sustain the foundation.

As from the start of the competition the ground was filled with the sweet sounds of the birds who competed, meshed with the delighted exclamations of their owners when they won and the cheers from spectators in the crowd who looked on.

President Debbie Roopchand as well as Partner in service Selene Ali entered the competition and it was a victory for the Rotarian supporters as Partner in Service Selene took home the second place trophy in the three feet competition with winning bird "Devanand Gatu".

Another highlight of the competition was the raffle of a bird and cage on site which was won by one of the lucky spectators.

Subsequently, on the 19th April 2017 the Association's President Seunarine Sanmook delivered to President Debbie Roopchand the Association's contribution from the event of $3,800 TTD (being the equivalent of $536 USD) for the Club's donation to the Rotary Foundation in celebration of its centennial.

The Club records its thanks to President Sanmook and the Association for making possible a partnership which brought members from various communities together for such a worthwhile cause and also thanks its Foundation Director Amraz Alibocas and his team of Rotarians who assisted with the project.
