Chokha Fest 2016 – A fun evening on San Fernando Hill

The Club under the leadership of President Debbie Roopchand hosted its first major fundraiser for the Rotary year - “Chokha Fest” on Saturday 27th August 2016.

As from the opening of the doors at 4:00 p.m. there was a steady stream of patrons to the venue who enjoyed a variety of tasty traditional East Indian chokha dishes accompanied by hot sada roti, fry bake and pepper roti served directly by Rotarians and their family members.

Children of Rotary Nabeel, Kyle, Avionne and Brianna assisted in sales of pineapple chow while the Interactors from the Interact Club of Princes Town West Secondary School led by their President Alyssa Francis, dedicated their efforts in promoting the Club’s raffle.

Kids who attended the event enjoyed the bouncy castle provided by the Club and patrons were delighted to win door prizes drawn hourly.

There was a fully stocked bar managed by Rotarians on site, police were present to provide a secure environment, and as the sun set on the scenic San Fernando Hill attendees danced the evening away to the live entertainment of the very versatile ‘Samsara D Band’.

The event was a great success and was accomplished through the astute leadership of Committee Chair Rudolph Ali, his dedicated committee as well as the Rotarians, partners in service and children who all assisted on the day, and the Club expresses its heartfelt thanks to them all.

As the Club embraces this year’s theme of “Rotary Serving Humanity” it looks forward to utilizing the funds derived from this fundraiser in its efforts to help those in need and in particular towards its Achievement and Scholarship awards programme through which it recognises the top performers in SEA examinations and the winners of National Scholarships residing within its jurisdiction and also seeks to grant scholarships to deserving students who reside within the Club’s jurisdiction.
