On Wednesday 11th July, 2018, the Club at its first regular meeting for 2018 celebrated with partners in service, family members and friends the occasion of Eid-ul-Fitr at the beautiful residence of Rotarian Jamir Ousman. President Crystal Ann Harper welcomed everyone and briefly shared the applicable teachings of Eid celebrations to Rotary as starting anew with renewed energy and spirit as Rotarians engage in projects for the 2018/2019 rotary year.

Guest speaker Imam Skeik Mohammed of the Williamsville's mosque opened with a special blessing and gave an enlightening sermon to members and their families on the teachings of Islam. He emphasized the need to be mindful of how we live in our daily lives with  each other and highlighted the similarities in Islam and Rotary as acts of service work in our local communities.

The evening’s program was chaired by Rotarian Ronald Gobin and featured performances by Rotarians Jamir Ousman and Amraz Ali Bocas, each of whom recited verses of the Holy Quran. Attendees were twice serenaded by beautiful renditions of Qaseedas by Rotarian Capildeo Beharry – which were well received.

The evening culminated with great fellowship as all feasted on a traditional Eid dinner consisting of veggie samosas for appetizers and curried chicken, rice, pumpkin, curried channa and potato, soya chunks, bodi and roti as the main course.  Sawine was served as dessert of choice as well as traditional sweets such as barfi, gulab jamoon, dates, and kurma. The Club specially thanks Partner in Service, Tara Ousman, for her preparation of the scrumptious meal.
