This year, on October 30th, our Club held our Divali celebration at the picturesque home of PP Jamir Ousman where all Covid-19 protocols were observed.  As the sun began to set, Pundit Robin Loutan gave blessings and the first deya was lit by our President Rishi Ramlogan and rotarians and their families assisted in lighting the rest of the deyas.

There were beautiful dances by the Sita Dance Company and melodious  bhajans (religious songs) by PP Capildeo Beharry and Pundit Robin Loutan and group.  PP Dr. Ronald Gobin conducted a “Pick A Pan” contest where patrons needed to give the hindi word for events that occur during a wedding ceremony.  Of the three pans, two had phone accessory prizes and the third had a different prize, in this case it was a cucumber!

Our Rotarians and guests were treated to dinner with a traditional vegetarian feast and delectable indian sweets as dessert.  The highlight of the evening was the fashion show where the beautiful indian outfits were modelled by both children and adults and the best dressed raja (king) and raani (queen) were chosen.

Our Club also recognized the indomitable spirit and strength of our Past President (PP) Zobida Ragbirsingh, a cancer survivor, who encouraged all the women present to get tested before it is too late.

Finally, we extend our heartfelt gratitude to PP Jamir Ousman and his wife Tara for welcoming us into their home once again for another memorable evening under the stars.
