Club Divali celebration - Nia Valley Ranch Princes Town

On Friday 21st October 2016 the Club hosted its annual Divali celebration at Nia Valley Ranch, Princes Town.  The event was well attended by Rotarians, their family members, friends and some of the members of the business community of Princes Town. 
 
After the lighting of deeyas the programme, which was chaired by, Past President Jamir Ousman opened with a live rendition of the National Anthem on the steelpan by Kyle Ali. 
 
President Debbie Roopchand highlighted to the audience some of the good works carried out by the Club and made public the Club’s recent donation of $7,500 USD towards Haiti in recognition of the need to assist those in need, not only at a national level, but also at an international level.
 
District Governor Roger Bose brought greetings on behalf of the District and shared some of his experiences during his term of office. 
 
It was a very special night for the Club as it inducted Dr. Carlyn Rajnarinesingh, a medical doctor presently employed at the Princes Town District Health Facility Emergency Department into its fold. Dr. Rajnarinesingh expressed her delight at joining the Club. 
The afternoon’s performances included a dance by Stephanie Chadee, musical interlude by Kyle Ali on the keyboard, traditional song by Rotarian Capildeo Beharry and a beautiful duet by children of rotary Rehan and Saheli Ali.  The children of rotary also performed a poetry recitation on Divali and later modelled their beautiful outfits.
 
A tasty dinner of traditional east Indian dishes and sweets for dessert was enjoyed  by all who attended. 
 
After dinner Pundit Surendra Maharaj delivered an enlightening discourse on the importance of Divali.  The evening came to a close with the vote of thanks by Rotarian Hafiz Ali and the lighting of wish lanterns in the carpark as attendees reflected on the occasion before their departure. 
 
Special thanks is given to Mr. Carl Hoi Pong owner of Nia Valley for the use of the venue and his ready assistance in ensuring the event’s success and to Rotarian Vishnu Seetaram and his committee who worked diligently towards making the evening as memorable as it was.
