On Thursday 10th November 2011, our Club hosted a Joint Meeting with the Rotary Club of San Fernando  South and a visit by the District Governor (DG) Lara Quentrall-Thomas at Canton  Palace Restaurant, San Fernando.

  

Ms. Debbie Roopchand, a practicing Attorney-at-Law  was inducted as the newest member of the Rotary Club of Princes Town by sitting  President Bashir Mohammed and was pinned with her Rotary pin by the DG Lara  Quentrall-Thomas.   Ms. Roopchand met  members of the Rotary Club of Princes Town during their awareness walk-about in  Gulf City Mall in August, during the Rotary Membership Development month.

 


 

President Azamuddin Khan of Rotary Club San Fernando South presented  his club’s projects and ventures for the past Rotary year via a Dev Gosine power  point presentation.  This included their  tree planting and beach cleaning projects as well as their 28th Anniversary celebration with the induction of their most recent member Mr. Richard Persad during the celebration.  All present were informed of the Club’s upcoming event, Parang by the Sea at the San Fernando Yacht Club.

 

President Bashir Mohammed of Rotary Club of Princes Town highlighted his club’s achievements during the year and outlined upcoming events up to December 2011.  Accomplishments included a tree planting exercise, Medical Outreach in Upper Corosal, Vocational Scholarship Awards Ceremony, wheelchair distribution and the continuing home construction project for a family of seven in need.  Upcoming events included the Tea and Fashion Event fundraiser for Diabetes Awareness Program and Polio Eradication, Club Elections for 2012-2013, Schools Christmas Treat and President’s Year End Event in December.

 

Assistant Governor Rahindra Seemungal brought greetings from the Rotary Club of Chaguanas and complimented both Clubs on their presentations and presented a brief history of Rotary. 

 

District Governor (DG) Lara spoke about her visits to the many Rotary clubs in Trinidad and Tobago.  She spoke of the plans to make a District Governor’s visit to Haiti to meet and fellowship with the seventeen (17) Rotary clubs in that Nation, as well as visit the site to construct a school for the children.

 

DG Lara requested all clubs to send her their projects and fund raising activities so they can be highlighted in the International Foundation Newsletter.

 

DG Lara presented a special Certificate of Appreciation to the Rotary Club of Princes Town for financially contributing to the global fight against Polio for the Rotary year 2010-2011.  This certificate was received by Immediate Past President for 2010-2011 Seunarine “Kex” Sanmook.
