Divali, the festival of lights is a very special occasion for Hindus all over the world. It signifies good over evil. This festival was commemorated by the club on October 22nd, 2011 at the residence of Rotarian PP Dr. Ronald Gobin.

As is customary, prior to the start of the program, Lakshmi Pooja (prayers) was performed by Pundit Sunil Gosine. At 6.00 pm Rotarians and their guests lit deeyas (clay bowls filled with oil and a wick) and it was a joy to see the children scampering around the flickering lights under the watchful eyes of the adults.

Later on, Retired Colonel Mahindra Mathur spoke on the significance of Divali, enlightening us on the five days of celebration held in India. The program included dances, songs and modeling. Rotarians showed that they knew a thing or two about fashion and modeling. You should have seen them “strut their stuff!”

No Rotary function such as this would be complete without a good curry and indeed it was, especially served on sohari leaves albeit, synthetic.

It was a wonderful evening, filled with camaraderie, fellowship, peace and happiness. We were truly blessed by Mother Lakshmi, the Goddess of wealth and prosperity.
