The Club’s 11th Annual Chokha Fest was held at the Usine Ste. Madeleine Club on September 17th 2011. The picturesque venue overlooking the Ste. Madeleine Pond and Golf Course provided the perfect backdrop for guests to spend an evening enjoying a collection of chokhas that brought back the feeling of the “good ole” days.

Rotarians prepared eighteen (18) dishes including twelve (12) chokhas such as the classic tomatoes, bigan and alloo chokhas and the not so familiar green fig and ochro chokhas. Hot sada roti was made on site and a wide selection of condiments including kutchela, tambrind, curry mango and “Mother-in-Law” added spice to the evening.

Dessert was supplied by the Kiss Baking Company and soft drinks by Caribbean Bottlers Ltd. The Club is also grateful to Nutrimix Ltd., Persad’s Food King and Kimberly-Clarke Ltd. for their contributions.

The cost of a ticket for the event was $125.00 and approximately 410 tickets were sold. The funds received would be used in the ongoing work of the Club in the many avenues of service.

This year the State Of Emergency did not affect the attendance as many of our guests stayed on to hear Heeralal Rampartap perform and to fellowship with members.

The Chokha Fest is not only a signature fund raiser of the Club but it is an opportunity for members to have fun, fellowship and work together for a noble purpose and in the name of Rotary.
