On Friday 17th October 2014 the Rotary Club of Princes Town Trinidad and Tobago (“the Club”) in celebration of Diwali, the festival of lights, with the Hindu Community of Lothians Village Princes Town conducted a Diwali  light-up and treat in conjunction with the Lothians Village Council at the Lothians Village Recreation Ground as part of the Club’s outreach programme in assisting communities and creating partnerships with them.

The Village Council welcomed the Club’s involvement in bringing joy and merriment to all who attended and thanked the Club for its generous and thoughtful initiative.

Approximately 120 residents of the community attended the event, which was made even more special by the live entertainment provided by S.M.S. Sangeet Orchestra.

All the children were treated with treat bags while the adults were given gifts of hampers. The Club distributed Prasad and traditional East Indian delicacies to all present at the celebrations.  The Lothians ground was beautifully lit up with deeyas placed on traditional bamboo arches which were bent to form various traditional patterns on the open field.

There was a common feeling of sharing and satisfaction between the Club and the attendees and the Club’s effort was recognised as reflective of the spirit of Diwali.

Rotarian Von Morris Mohammed was responsible for organizing the event with the assistance of President of the Lothians Village Council Mr. Carl Arjoon and with the support of fellow Rotarians from the Club the event turned out to be a great success for all who attended.
