Medical Outreach and Legal Aid Clinic at La Lune, Moruga
The Rotary Club of Princes Town conducted a Medical Outreach Clinic on Sunday 26th February 2012 at the La Lune Roman Catholic School in Moruga. One hundred and twenty one (121) patients visited the clinic and were attended to by the various medical personnel on hand.
The following services were offered at the Clinic:
Blood pressure, blood sugar and cholesterol screening
Psychiatric and Counselling services
ENT services
STD’s Testing
Dispensing of pharmaceuticals via prescriptions from the doctors
Clothing and toys distribution
A Legal Aid Clinic was simultaneously conducted by Rotarian Ms. Debbie Roopchand and her colleague Mr. Ernest H. Koylass S.C. whilst the Medical Clinic was in progress.
A total of 10 persons were counseled on matters ranging over the following areas: matrimonial divorce, cohabitation proceedings, adoption proceedings, custody, land (Deeds/fraud), land (easements), judicial review and access to social welfare. The individual with the cohabitation matter in particular was near the limitation period (2 years) and unaware that failure to take out proceedings would prevent her from doing so at a later time and stood to lose an interest in the only asset acquired during the cohabitation viz the parties’ residence.
