Rotary Serving Humanity - Rotary Club of Princes Town conducts comprehensive Medical Outreach at the rural community of Penal Rock Road, Moruga.

On Sunday 22nd January 2017 members of the Cub together with a full team of professional volunteers visited the rural community of Penal Rock Road, Moruga and conducted a comprehensive medical outreach programme for the benefit of 105 residents who attended the medical.

From 9am to 12 noon there was a steady flow of residents who took the opportunity to access free medical consultations, dental examinations, legal consultations, vision screening and dispensation of pharmaceutical items on site by a registered pharmacist.

Volunteer nurses administered 50 flu shots and 20 tetanus vaccinations to residents. Free blood sugar, cholesterol and hypertension testing were also done on site and the Club distributed 15 large bags of clothing to residents as well as toiletries.

It was observed that many of the residents suffered from high blood sugar levels, high cholesterol, were in need of glasses and required treatment for cavities. As far as was possible referrals for further treatment were made and individuals prescribed appropriate medication where necessary.

Poor diet appeared to play a significant role in relation to the conditions which patients presented.

The Club records its thanks to Service Projects Director Mrs. Vilma Bellamy for her dedication and hard work in making the project the success it was and thanks all Rotarians, partners in service, children and volunteers who lent their assistance on the day.

Special thanks is also given to resident of Penal Rock Road Lester Guevarro who approached the Club towards conducting the outreach and who assisted with transporting residents to the venue to access the various services.

The Club recognises the presence of President Faraz and Rotarian Dr. Sinead of the Rotary Club of San Fernando South who attended the project and assisted.
