On Sunday the 7th of February, 2021, the Rotary Club of Princes Town held its first Medical Outreach Service Project since the onset of the CoVid-19 Pandemic. This was done at the Gangaram Trace Recreation Ground in Brother’s Road, and expertly coordinated with the Princes Town Regional Corporation. This particular location was again chosen in commemoration of our late sister, former Rotarian and President-Elect Rhea Nobbee, to serve the community in which she grew up.
During these hard economic times and in an era of increasingly depressed social circumstances these types of outreach programmes are becoming more and more necessary and beneficial to the communities, as was very evident in this instance. We were able to serve almost 120 patrons from this community who find it very difficult because of road conditions, transportation problems, financial issues, proximity burdens or otherwise to access these basic services which are offered at the health facilities.
Rotarians and partners in services gathered from as early as 6:00 am to ensure that all was in fine order so the day could run smoothly especially having to adhere to strict CoVid-19 Protocols with respect to temperature screening, mask-wearing, sanitizing and social distancing.
Services offered included medical check-ups with blood pressure, blood sugar and cholesterol testing, doctor’s consultation and examinations, dental examination, pharmacy services, legal advice, fitness guidance and assessment including BMI calculations. There were also free medication, clothing, hygiene-packs and food distributions.
Some of the planning that went into this highly successful event came from the expertise of the Councillor/ Chairman of the Princes Town Regional Corporation Mr. Gowrie Roopnarine who had a specific hand in identifying the deserving families.
Our Service Projects’ Director Michael, interviewed the young and not-so-young who expressed gratitude and were extremely pleased with the services provided, especially amidst the pandemic.
Our sincerest gratitude goes out to all persons who made this day the success that it was, including our President Mr. Ramlogan, Service Projects Director Michael and his team, our hard working and dedicated Rotarians, their Partners-in-Service and children, our in-house doctors, Drs. Mr and Mrs Permanand, Dr. Kavi Ali, Justin from TT Lunch-KIT Catering and Anandi Maraj ( our Pharmacist) who sponsored over 100 lunch boxes, Mr Eddie from Eddies Pharmacy Debe, JT Rapid, Bryden Pi, Advantage Lab Services Ltd, Pharmtec, Blue Waters, Massy Stores, Coco Cola T&T Ltd.
