On March 8 2022, in commemoration of International Women’s Day, our Club was privileged to have as our guest speaker, Senator Jayanti Lutchmedial for the induction of three new female members to our Club.
President Rishi Ramlogan welcomed the inductees and recognized the contributions and achievements of the female Rotarians and partners- in-service in our Club. Members were treated to a musical interlude by Darrius Balgobin and Hugh Humphrey on the drums as well as a short video presentation highlighting the women in our Club working and volunteering at projects and fundraisers.

Miranda Ramjattan – District Health Visitor stationed at Williamsville Health Center
Shuntelle Thomas – Clerk 1 at the Princes Town District Health Facility
Membership Director Rudranath Maraj, Past President Zobida Ragbirsingh and Senator Jayanti Lutchmedial assisted with the pinning and presentation of the new member kits to the newest Rotarians in the Club who expressed their appreciation for becoming Rotarians and were eager to get involved in planning and executing the upcoming service projects and fundraisers.
Senator Jayanti Lutchmedial credited her success to her two grandmothers who were not highly educated but stated she is a product of their work which at the time was not valued. She recognized that Rotary creates a space for women but allows the opportunity for men to understand how women work and to see their value to society.
Senator Jayanti also stated the need for gender responsive leadership in our society and the need to change how work is perceived where some men consider a housewife at home as not working or doing nothing as opposed to a woman working in an office.
President Rishi and First Lady Nadira presented commemorative mugs to all the women present and the evening ended with members welcoming the ladies with warm congratulations and fellowship thereafter.
