Scholarship Awards, Induction Ceremony and DG and AG visit…
The Rotary Club of Princes Town hosted its Thirtieth Annual Scholarship Award Ceremony on 16th January 2023 at Canton Palace. This year the Club took the sterling opportunity to showcase its project to the visiting District Governor, Mr. Leslie Ramdhanny of Greneda and Assistant District Governor, Mr. Brian Ramatally and further maximized the opportunity by inducting a new Rotarian, Ms. Kimberly Ramlochan.
This Scholarship Project has been part of the club’s legacy since its charter on 07th May 1993 and has awarded in excess of $1 million since then. Funded by the net proceeds of its annual Chokhafest fundraiser, scholarships applications are received and vetted towards providing financial assistance to deserving students aged 16-24. The process examines students’ course selection, academic proficiency, social circumstances and the likelihood of the student returning skills to the upliftment of their families and communities.
In alignment with Rotary’s areas of focus, this Scholarship Project seeks to meaningfully contribute to providing opportunities for education by investing into the development of the skills and talents of young people within the radius of the Rotary Club’s service. However, over the years, deserving students across the nation, enrolled in various areas of learning at local and international tertiary institutions have applied and were awarded scholarships.
At this year’s award ceremony, nine students received awards and the club sought to provide a gala experience for all present. Not only was an exquisite dinner served but the glamour of the evening was highlighted by the remarkable talents of eleven-year-old Arya McCleod, a student of the Ebony Edwards Steelpan Academy and twelve-year-old pianist, Jaedon Roberts of St. Stephen’s College. The feature speaker, District Governor, Mr. Leslie Ramdhanny, an exemplary Rotarian with a wealth of knowledge and experience, took the opportunity to inspire the youth to never limit their imaginations and encouraged them to adopt the Rotary ideal of service above self.
Rotary Clubs adopt the passion, energy, and intelligence of their members to action sustainable projects towards positively impacting change in communities. The global network has made tremendous strides in advancing the understanding of peace, the improvement of health and provision of quality education. The Rotary Club of Princes Town is ever welcoming to new members, volunteers, and donations. Further information is available on all social media platforms and through any club member. The Club’s major fundraiser is its Annual Golf Tournament which is carded for 05th March 2023 and invites corporate sponsorship.
