A revolution in lifestyle change which incorporates diet and exercise, was the challenge given to the Rotary Club of Princes Town by the Attorney General, Senator Anand Ramlogan at their Handover ceremony held at Doc’s Ranch in Philippine on Saturday June 23, 2012.

“..Unless there is a revolution in lifestyle change, starting with the Princes Town Rotary Club, which incorporates diet and exercise as an important and integral part of life; based on the recognition that when men marry, they no longer build a sweat outside the bedroom, if they do break a sweat in the bedroom at all.”  He urged members to take care of themselves and “make a conscious effort as professionals and businessmen or they will be spending money to take care of others in Rotary while they fail to take care of themselves”.

Three new Rotarians, Rishi Ramlogan, Von Mohammed & Hafiz Ali and two honorary members, well known comedian Nikki Crosby and dancer/choreographer Michael Salickram of the Bmobile Shiv Shakti Dance Company were inducted into Rotary at this event.  Children of Rotarians provided musical interlude during the event, with President’s son Nabeel starting the event off with the National Anthem on pan.

Incoming President 2012-2013 Capildeo Beharry officially received his instruments of appointment by outgoing President Bashir Mohammed 2011 – 2012.

Some highlights of the Club’s accomplishments over the past year were:

·     Awarded the Presidential Citation by RI President

·     Awarded the Changemaker Award from Rotary International

·   Conducted Diabetes Awareness Program in Primary Schools from Princes Town to Mayaro targeting Standard 3 students, encouraging healthier eating habits and a more active lifestyle.

·     Four successful medical and legal clinics held at Upper Corosan, La Lune, Kernaham and Newbolt

·     Constructed a house in Mt. Stewart for a family of six after the original house was destroyed by high winds

·     Disbursed scholarships to six (6) students to pursue tertiary education

·     Distributed Twelve (12) wheelchairs to persons with disabilities

·     Planted over forty (40) poui, pine and mahogany saplings to reduce environmental degradation and help preserve the natural environment

·     Movie night for children of Kernaham

The Attorney General closed by challenging Rotarians and guests to campaign actively for a healthy Rotary Club in Princes Town “ because it is better to light a candle than curse the dark and the longest journey begins with a single step and remember that change begins with the man in the mirror”.
